In her first year at Groundwork Hudson Valley Emily has organized volunteers to participate in multiple river restoration efforts, led fish studies with high school students, implemented a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Campaign at local high schools, recruited and managed college and high-school age interns, led classes and tours on the Science Barge, and conducted classes at high schools and middle schools. She has received training on Growing School Gardens from Putnam/Northern Westchester Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) and Volunteer recruitment and management from The Westchester Association for Volunteer Administration. She has completed independent research projects on History and Urban Ecology of the Los Angeles River, The Effects of Natural Outdoor Play on Children, and Chemicals in Household Products.
