Sara Smith Sell, Deputy Director of Youth Programs

B.A. Sarah Lawrence College

Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, Sara moved to Yonkers five years ago to attend Sarah Lawrence College and has been working in the Southwest Yonkers community since year one. Sara’s work in garden education and food justice began with the Greyston Foundation’s community gardens, and more specifically their Enviro-Earth Club. She spent two years as a garden educator with this group and one year serving as the chair of the organization. Sara also interned in the Seattle Tilth Children’s Garden in 2012 as a garden educator. Through an internship with Groundwork, Sara was able to expand her understanding of food justice, activism and the importance of youth in the Southwest Yonkers community and is thrilled to be able to continue this work as a Groundwork staff member.
