Vernon is Groundwork Hudson Valley’s Director of Community and Economic Development. Before working at Groundwork, he helped build and develop the Coalition of Neighborhood Councils in San Diego, CA, acting as the Chairman of the Board for nearly a decade. He has worked with a wide range of community constituencies from faith-based institutions to street gangs.  He was on the forefront of positive community building activities, including asset mapping. For Groundwork, Vernon leads Groundwork’s Computerized Neighborhood Environmental Tracking Program (ComNET), an intergenerational program, and its Community Benefits Agreement initiative. He has also been active in Groundwork USA, leading strategic planning sessions related to the development of Groundwork programs across the nation.
