BioBlitz 2009
Groundwork Hudson Valley and the Saw Mill River Coalition are excited to have received a grant from the Westchester Community Foundation to organize a BioBlitz along the Saw Mill River! The Saw Mill River BioBlitz was held Friday and Saturday September 25th and 26th, 2009.
The BioBlitz brought together over fifty scientists and naturalists to survey the watershed over a 24 hour period, compiling a biodiversity inventory that can now be used to nurture, preserve, and protect the existing species in our urban watershed. The scientists identified over 650 different species and counting!
The second goal of the BioBlitz is to reach out to watershed communities to acquaint them with the biodiversity in their own back yards. To this end we hosted a Junior BioBlitz, a lecture series, a nature walk, and roundtable discussions that were made free to the public.
Please visit our BioBlitz site for more information and updates.
