Saving the Planet – One Light Bulb at a Time

Just as the Science Barge demonstrates ways to grow food more sustainably in an urban setting, the EcoHouse shows how we can live more sustainably at home.

The EcoHouse, located in Yonkers, New York, is a sustainability education center that offers a unique learning experience, with interactive exhibits revealing what is behind the walls and underneath the floor of a typical home — and energy-saving alternatives.

The emphasis is on furthering an understanding of how simple choices in the home will reduce our use of non-renewable resources, like water and fossil fuels, not only saving us money, but helping to save our planet.

EcoHouse is part of Groundwork’s initiative in Climate Change Education, which includes programs at the Science Barge, in classrooms, and at the Center for the Urban River at Beczak.
