This fall, join scientists and nature lovers alike to celebrate the diversity of life on the Saw Mill River.

About

About Groundwork Hudson Valley:

Groundwork Hudson Valley is a non-profit environmental organization established 8 years ago to address long-neglected environmental needs in Yonkers and lower Westchester County. We collaborate with local stakeholders to make visible environmental changes in target neighborhoods based on community identified priorities.

Projects range from playground restoration to community gardens, tree plantings, art work, and watershed renewal. GWHV is also committed to community empowerment as a means to long-term, sustainable change.

About Saw Mill River Coalition:

The Saw Mill River Coalition is a program of Groundwork Hudson Valley. It was established in 2001 to rebuild river advocacy in lower Westchester County communities through which the river flows. Our mission is to help people revitalize, protect and enjoy the Saw Mill River. This includes working on improving water quality, encouraging sustainable land use, restoring habitat and wildlife, promoting recreational opportunities, and raising awareness of the river’s history and significance.

The Saw Mill River Coalition is a dynamic partnership of nonprofit groups, government agencies, municipalities and businesses dedicated to revitalizing and protecting the Saw Mill River, a tributary of the Hudson River.

History of BioBlitz:

A BioBlitz is a 24-hour inventory of all living organisms in a given area, often an urban park. The term "BioBlitz" was coined by National Park Service naturalist Susan Rudy while assisting with the first BioBlitz at Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens, Washington D.C. BioBlitz in May 31 - June 1, 1996.

The bioblitz name and concept is not registered, copyrighted, or trademarked; it is an idea that can be used, adapted, and modified by any group to use for their own purposes. A bioblitz has the dual aims of establishing the degree of biodiversity in an area and popularizing science.

Sponsor a Scientist!

Thank you to those who donated to the scientists who identified over 650 different species within the Saw Mill River Watershed!

We ask you to please continue your support so that we can further connect communities to the biodiversity in their own backyards. We hope to organize another Junior BioBlitz after the great success of the September event.
