The 2025 Great Saw Mill River Cleanup – Volunteer Opportunity in Westchester County

Groundwork Hudson Valley invites volunteers to participate in the Great Saw Mill River Cleanup, one of the largest community-led environmental restoration events in Westchester County. This annual initiative takes place during Earth Week 2025 and mobilizes residents, students, and organizations to help improve the health of the Saw Mill River and surrounding ecosystems.

A Meaningful Way to Celebrate Earth Week

Volunteers will remove litter and debris from riverbanks at multiple locations, contributing to cleaner waterways, improved public spaces, and healthier habitats for local wildlife. The event supports long-term goals of urban river restorationclimate resilience, and community engagement in environmental stewardship.

This year’s cleanup will feature a special demonstration at the Walsh Road site in Yonkers, where local high school students will showcase innovative trash pickers they developed as part of a youth environmental design project.
