In the News: Tackling Flooding in Westchester with Green Solutions

Flooding has become a growing problem for many communities in Westchester County. A recent News 12 segment highlighted the frustration of local residents and leaders—and the need for real solutions.
Groundwork Hudson Valley’s Victor Medina, Director of Green Jobs, was interviewed as part of the story. While local leaders are focused on quick fixes like clearing debris from rivers, Victor highlighted the importance of planting trees along the Saw Mill River as a long-term way to help prevent flooding.
“Willows and other trees can help hold the soil in place and soak up stormwater,” Victor explained. “It’s not a quick fix, but it works over time.”
Groundwork Hudson Valley is already taking action by planting trees, restoring green spaces, and training young people for green careers that help protect our communities from climate impacts.
