Saving the Planet – One Light Bulb at a Time
Just as our Science Barge demonstrates ways to grow food more sustainably in an urban setting, EcoHouse shows how we can adapt to live more sustainably in our home and community.
The EcoHouse, located in Yonkers, New York, is a homestead-styled sustainability education center that offers a unique learning experience with interactive exhibits, demonstrating energy-saving alternatives by revealing what is behind the walls and underneath the floor of a typical home.
EcoHouse is part of Groundwork’s initiative in climate change education. Our Global, Local, Coastal climate curriculum, developed under a grant with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA), teaches students about the local impacts of our changing climate, how to implement environmentally sustainable practices in the home, and prepare for severe weather emergencies that may come. By deepening our climate literacy, we can each play a role in mitigating the effects of climate change within our communities.
